Pint of the Week

Zombie Dust is our highlighted pint of the week. Don't worry you won't have to stab this one in the brain to kill it....3 Floyds Brewing Company located in the Munster, IN, aka the region, has been killing it (I apologize for the overuse of puns in this post) with this delicious Pale Ale bursting with flavor.

According to their site the ABV of Zombie Dust is 6.4% with a bitterness of 60 IBU's. They do not specify the hops used but after discussions with several regional/national homebrewers citra hops makes up the majority, if not all, the hop allotment. Five gallon homebrewers use 5 oz of citra during the boil and an additional 3 oz to dryhop for 6-7 days right before bottling/kegging.

Sure to wake the dead, Zombie Dust brings a burst of citra hops on the nose with a full floral/fruit flavor. Notes of citrus/grapefruit but not with the same amount of bitterness expected with such a large amount of hops used.

Zombie Dust is consistently ranked in the top 20 of the top 200 beers in America and 2013 was no exception. This beer is hard to find and often times you have to be put on a waiting list at your local craft beer retailor. It is worth the effort...

What's Kring Brewin?

In Fermentation-Karma Citra is currently in the dry hop phase in the fermentor. I substituted and additional oz of Citra instead of Cascade. We will be bottling 10 days from now and two weeks after that I will give you my review. Here is the link if you want to purchase:

On Deck-All grain kit from Northern Brewer "Plinian Legacy Double IPA". This is an all grain clone of Pliney the Elder. Pliney is consistently in the top 5 rated beers in the US.
